Rockland Maine….Egypt?

Twenty-five to thirty couples

The first time we went to Alonissos we stayed in the old town which, as is often the case on Greek islands, is near the highest point. Residents abandoned the old town after a 1960s earthquake and got relocated by the government to the port down below.  In the 1980s, Germans and Brits started buying the abandoned old town houses and restoring them.  During our trip, Greeks kept gossiping with us that there were between 25 to 30 elderly European couples up there and that they were hippie-ish and into swinging. It was always a number in this range but rarely the exact same number! And it wasn't clear if it was, say, 26 couples or 26 people. Despite the gossip, we barely saw another soul the whole time we stayed there, let alone any racy couples.

Here's a drawing I did imagining the mythic revelers floating above the old town at night...
