Samantha and I have spent about half of the past year in Greece. Here’s an illustrated diary of sights from the Sporadic Islands from last fall.

Fishing boats fill small Greek harbors (Patitiri, Alónnisos).
Some of the olive trees have taken on curved shapes from the wind. |
Cats enjoy the Greek sunlight.
Despite being our favorite coffee drink, the freddo cappuccino is shockingly unknown outside of Greece. They use a milkshake blender to make a whipped cream layer for the top of a cappuccino. Delicious iced on a hot summer day.
A view over Steni Vala on Alónnisos.
Goats chew the scenery all over in Greece.
Sailboats float near the empty beaches. |
Greek fish is so fresh and tasty. Here’s a fish called, cutely, boops boops. |
Our friend, Dimitra. Her family owns a house in the old town on Alonissos, and we met her there a few years ago. We got to visit with her In Athens in June from a safe distance (!) in Pedion tou Areos park. |
The swimming on Alónnisos is some of the most serene you can experience. And the pebbly beaches all have stunning views.
The night skies are an evening's entertainment. The moon and stars are vivid like nowhere else.

Sam waits for the ferry to take us to the next destination in Greece. |
